Hazardous Household Waste Posted on 18 Jan 2019

From the 1 January 2019, Patients should no longer be directed to community pharmacies for disposal of clinical waste (including sharps waste) as collections of sharps waste will cease. Community pharmacies are being written to, to confirm the cessation of sharps collections. Local authority is arranging for the disposal of patient generated clinical waste (including sharps waste).

Clinical waste must not be placed in residents’ normal waste collection service.

If you are treating yourself at home and the waste arising from your treatment is classified as hazardous (i.e. where a particular risk has been identified based on medical diagnosis) or you are producing syringes or sharps a separate clinical waste collection will be required.

If you require a collection please contact Veolia on 0203 5676955
